No, you do not need to be an Alentus web hosting customer, but admittedly we are concerned with taking on new customers that only want the NewsLetter Pro service. In the past we have had a couple issues with those types of customers being spammers.

Additionally, any graphics used by the Newsletter need to be located somewhere on the net (they are links, not the actual graphic). A hosting plan ensures that there is an internet accessible place to store the graphics used.
