Email Delays Due to Worldwide Virus/Worm Attacks

At times our mail servers are bombarded by the latest viruses/worms (w32.sobig, etc.), which puts a strain on our Barracuda Spam and Virus Units or the Mail Servers themselves. Although the mail servers still operate, they are slowed appreciably by the intense activity. Delays of 30 to 60 minutes can be introduced by this alone.

On top of this, all the other mail servers around the globe are usually in similar or much worse straits (those without anti SPAM/Virus gateway servers). These servers are also introducing lengthy delays in the processing of email.

Due to the nature of this activity there is virtually nothing that we can do to mitigate the resulting delays. All that we can really do is to wait out the storm at which time things will return to normal.
